Following up on the rapid changes of industry, the Kaohsiung City Government is planning to construct a “Free Trading Port Area” and “ State Cargo Center .” Furthermore, it also wants to develop the Harbor Commercial Area and International Professional Logistics Center to upgrade Kaohsiung Port into a multi-functional place.
As Kaohsiung is becoming an international city, the Kaohsiung City Government is attempting to produce a friendly environment. By rejuvenating the Taiwan Sugar Logistics area, the Software Technology Area, and the Aviation transport area, the City Government hopes to encourage more business ideas, and to speed up the port development plan to establish the International Professional Logistics Center. In addition to that, the biological technology area is creating new industries throughout Kaohsiung. Also, rewarding foreign investors and local investors will further enhance business.

With its advantages of oceanic and aviation hubs and an international level of transportation service quality, Kaohsiung is a trading window between Taiwan and the rest of the world.
Ocean, Aviation, and High Speed Railway
The Kaohsiung Port area is a 12-Kilometer long channel that includes 116 docks. The depth of the water varies from 10.5 to 16 meters and is capable of handling ships weighing up to 100,000 tones. The long coastal line is linked to the economic lifeline of Kaohsiung; therefore, the development of Kaohsiung Port is one of the most important projects of the city.
Kaohsiung International Airport is the main transport hub for both travelers and business executives in the southern region of Taiwan . The growing import and export trade relating to Taiwan 's high-tech industry has also increased the demand on freight transportation at Kaohsiung International Airport . When the High Speed Railway begins operating in 2008, as well as the aviation port and KMRT modes of transport, Kaohsiung will realize even greater business opportunities.
